Bad Blood Boils in Boston

It seems that the Bruins have fought in bunches this season. The majority of the team’s fighting majors have come during six multi-fight games. Last night was no different in Boston’s game against the Ducks.

With the B’s up 3-0, a heavyweight bout between Shawn Thornton and George Parros took place eight minutes into the second period. Moments later, things escalated after Mike Brown took exception to Milan Lucic rushing in on Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller, who was covering the puck.

Brown gave Lucic a gloved punch to the face and then continued to go after him. They dropped the gloves and Brown landed a right hand before losing his balance and falling to the ice. Lucic followed him down and hammered away until Sheldon Brookbank jumped on top of him. All of the other players on the ice (sans goalies) piled in but nothing else came of it. Brookbank was ejected from the game for being the third man in.

Less than a minute later, Marc Savard dropped the gloves after being roughed up by Scott Niedermayer, but the two only received roughings. The Bruins and Ducks won’t see each other again this season, but their next meeting might be one to look out for if certain players remain on the respective rosters.

Other notable bouts that took place on Thursday included a long battle between Eric Boulton and Donald Brashear and a one-sided scrap between Jason Strudwick and Raffi Torres. There were six fights overall on the night.

Laraque to play tonight

After declaring he doesn’t want to be traded, Georges Laraque is expected to be back in the Canadiens’ lineup tonight against the Flyers.

The Ducks played like a bunch of aholes last night; I was at the game and Parros, when on the ice, most of the time had no clue that a puck was there, he was just trying to instigate all game long.

Unforgettably for Boston who never wanted to fight in the first place, Savard & Lucic are apparently injured which could be fatal to this team as we near the playoffs

Lucic is a good tough kid and he is only 20, however Milan has developed a bad habit of hitting people when they are on the ice. It’s only a matter of time before he picks on the wrong guy. The way he throws his body around I look for him to have a very short career in the NHL.

#3 - Mess from Boston on Feb 27, 2009 at 03:45 PM

Brown received 5 for fighting, a 10 minute misconduct and a game misconduct.  I’m guessing that’s why Lucic pounded him while he was down.  Brown obviously broke the truce and even the zebra’s saw it.  At that point, all bets are off.

#4 - henry on Feb 27, 2009 at 09:04 PM

totally agree with mess from boston..if lucic did anything wrong where is his punishment???i agrre with the fact brown broke the code first.punching a guy before his gloves are off and he is squared.. jim gato how the hell do you figure he will have a short career???brendan shannahan played the same style same way and he is 40+..not to bad?? gary roberts was the same waymaybe even a little crazier throwing his body in the net and boards..with multiple kneck and back injuries he is still around and handling himself well…don’t assume things.i will give looch..20 to 20+ years

#5 - henry on Feb 27, 2009 at 09:24 PM

oh and lucic;s hand was busted up he will be back..savard wll be back as well

#6 - henry on Feb 28, 2009 at 01:40 AM

lets talk about this code.everyone swears by it and d-bags that say the code the code.there is no code.bgl is suppose to be the poster boy for the code and has a list but yet he breaks two of the so called code rules in the fight against simon.1 he drives his forearm into simon’s face while they are down and cuts him open.2nd he criticises players for throwing there hands up to celebrate a fight.he says its disrespectfull.but yet he does it..no one should bash looch for breaking the code whne there is no code

Henry ur a idiot if u think what Lucic did was fine, he is becoming a Claude Lameaux where people will stop respecting him.

#8 - henry on Feb 28, 2009 at 08:19 PM

i guess i’m an idiot who has played 23 years of hockey.i believe brown deserved every bit of it.your just a lucic hater.nah people will never stop respecting him.he obviously has gained enough respect where most won’t take a run except a few exceptions like brown who hits man who isn’t ready, funny how looch wasn’t even looking at him when brown came at him.he was looking at brookbank.thats real tough, bgl faught simon gave hima forearm when they were going cutting him open and then throws his hands in the air acting like lucic but no put him down..the code has been broen by everyone.people either like looch or hae him but all would love to have him on there team.he doesn’t play dirty other wise he would be getting called for it.lemeiux was dirty by hitting people from be hind, cheap checks..looch isn’t even close to that…so stop being a hater and realise brown deserved it.brown s one of the cheapest fighters..its called karma!!!! i would support lucic if it happened again if someone gave him a cheap shot like that…realise there is no code and never was..a respected player will respect anothe respected player..brown isn’t respected, lucic is the reason why boulton held back..but it was also ok when lucic faught wade brookbank and he threw a late punch after the linesman or ivannans trying to throw a cheap shot at the end…please like i said don’t be a hater…i believe your the idiot

The Ducks homers on here make me laugh.Lucic got sucker punched twice. And no I am not a Bruins fan.

#10 - Pmarz1 on Mar 01, 2009 at 08:42 PM

For all of you who can’t actually look at a video and comprehend what you just saw, it was Brookbank, not Brown, that initially punches Lucic, not once but twice. That’s where Lucic’s attention was when Brown decided to jump Lucic. Hey Jim Gato from Peabody, why dont you tell us a little more about Lucic’s bad habit of punching a fighter when he is down. I dont believe I’ve seen it happen prior to this fight. Brown’s exit from the game was most likely because he jumped in on Lucic who was engaged with another player.

#11 - mc4618 on Mar 02, 2009 at 04:14 AM

Wether Brown’s hit was a sucker punch or not, that’s no excuse to start raining bricks onto a guy who’s butt is on the ice.  If Lucic had something to prove or wanted revenge for a perceived cheap shot, then he should’ve pulled Brown to his feet and THEN teach him a lesson.  However, Lucic decides to take the low road and tries to hurt a guy who was unable to defend himself.  Yeah, that’s real tough, Lucic.  Way to go.

#12 - MC from vancouver on Mar 02, 2009 at 05:22 PM

who are you people?  I ask myself after reading these posts if you have ever played the game.  Everyone is entitled to an opinion i suppose but this is HOCKEY and if you don’t really have a clue then maybe you should chat about other sports.

#13 - Brujo from Mass on Mar 02, 2009 at 08:59 PM

Lucic Style of play is borderline dirty. He takes run at player and I beleive will not be around very long. When he fights I’ve never seen him take on a legit heavyweight. Easy to pick on the little guys and win. When BGL challenged Lucic he wasn’t quick to respond was he. but a guy like Komi who doesn’t fight he took on. When Lucic fights a legit hvywt then come talk ur garbage till then don’t defend the dirty punk Biatch

#14 - Walt on Mar 03, 2009 at 11:51 AM

Lucic lost his temper - Mike Brown does that to players.  The kid is 20 y.o. Give him a break. I’ve seen videos of his fights with monsters like Kassian and Boogaard’s brother in junior ... he can handle himself against big tough guys.  The guy is really good for hockey i.m.o. - he is a throwback to the Gares/Tocchets/Neelys/Shannys/Roberts/Clarks of a bygone era.  We need more two way talents with toughness like him in the league.

#15 - JiM G on Mar 03, 2009 at 01:17 PM

Boy’s; When I wrote that I feel Lucic will have a short carrer it’s was just my observation. He skates out of control however anyone can tell he leaves his heart out there every night. I think he picks his spots very well when it comes to dropping the gloves (which may be a good idea) I attend 30-40 Bruins games a year and have for many years. In closing Lucic is only 20 and I don’t think it’s a good idea to compare him (yet) to a very good points guy like Brendan Shannahan as suggested above.

#16 - Pmarz1 on Mar 03, 2009 at 03:02 PM

Jim, my objection with your post was regarding your commnet,
“however Milan has developed a bad habit of hitting people when they are on the ice.”

Please back that up with some facts. Regarding his fights, it seems most he doesnt “pick” at all. Others come looking for him, and for good reason, they want him off the ice. I’m tired of listening to the whines of all the moronic Lucic haters that he won’t fight the “heavyweights”. Why the hell should he? He is smart, he knows he is much more valuable on the ice than off in the box with some goon who may be a marginal player at best(i.e.db, bgl, etc…)

“Lucic is a good tough kid and he is only 20, however Milan has developed a bad habit of hitting people when they are on the ice. It’s only a matter of time before he picks on the wrong guy.”

The trouble with this statement is that Lucic doesn’t pick on the WRONG guy. Ever since John Erskine cleaned his clock last year, Lucic only fights alter boys and cubscouts. He runs from guys that actually do any fighting.

Then after he lands a punch on the alter boy or cubscout he leaves the ice like a returning war hero. To me, he is a bush league punk til I see otherwise.

#18 - Ed from Hartford on Mar 03, 2009 at 07:25 PM

Lucic doesn’t fight this guy and doesn’t fight that guy. I thought the sport was put the puck in the net, speaking of that how many of these alleged tough heavyweights have more the 5 goals a year. That may take them 3 years to get there. Do the Bruins want Lucic braking his knuckles on cementhead’s thats only job is to fight and score 3 times a year on a lucky bounce.

He plays on the top line do you get that. If you are in the box fightin’ goons you can not play on the top line and if you are you will not be on the top line for long.

Joe thornton, Ovechkin, tkachuk should also be taking on the heavyweights as well. There just wimps right…......

#19 - Brujo from Mass on Mar 03, 2009 at 08:01 PM

Ed u dare mention Ovechkin and thorton in the same sentnces as lucic? Come on there’s a big differnce and that is skills. You can’t compare the limited skills of lucic to that of Alex or Joe. If u notice Lucic hit people he always leaves the ice, but hey his little punk @SS will get his sooner or later

#20 - Rex from MN on Mar 04, 2009 at 11:49 AM

Would love to have a rare power forward like Lucic here on the Wild!  That said, he clearly needs to develop in the character department to even be mentioned in the same sentence as Shanahan, Neely, Roberts, Nolan, Tocchet, etc.  That definitely means fewer fights with midweight/finess players and stepping up for teamates against some toughs.  And not wailing on a downed opponenet unless the guy is clearly a deserving rat, of which there are a few…

#21 - Steelydan from Beantown on Mar 04, 2009 at 02:55 PM

Comparing lucic to thornton, ovechkin, tkachuk?
Buddy, lucic isn’t even in the same category as the pro’s. what people hate is a guy who picks on non fighters and runs away from any legit fighter.
he’s proved this and one day someone will pound his face in. There’s a reason why so many here want to see he get a beating. There’s a reason why so many here hate him, and it’s not because he’s good. He’s got a face anyone would want to bash in.

#22 - boldbilly on Mar 08, 2009 at 09:51 AM

Okay all you dillusional Bruin fans let’s list the facts as they are.

1) Yes Lucic beat Komisarek ( a non fighter ) when he blew out his shoulder early in the match and was just holding on .I RESERVE JUDGEMENT FOR A SECOND BOUT and hopefully they both stay healthy.

2) Stop saying how a first line player is not supposed to fight ( coaches orders )BECAUSE EVERYONE SEES THAT HE PICKS HIS SPOTS AND DOES FIGHT THE LITTLE GUYS AND THE NON FIGHTERS BUT AS SOON AS SOMEONE LIKE LARAQUE COMES CALLING OOPPPS COACHES ORDERS…LO.L….IF YOU WANT TO SEE COURAGE LOOK NO FURTHER THAN BAGOSIAN TAKING ON BRASHEAR AND MORE RECENTLY   O’BYRNE YOUR GUY IS A CHICKEN PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

3)  WHY DO YOU THINK EVERY TIME HE IS INVOLVED THIS FORUM LIGHTS UP WITH COMMENTS? IS IT BECAUSE EVERYONE SEES HOW CHEAP HE IS?  OR IS IT BECAUSE EVERYONE WANTS HIM ON THEIR TEAM AS HAS BEEN SUGGESTED….. HIS 35 POINTS ON THE FIRST LINE   L.O.L   HE PLAYS WITH SAVARD HE SHOULD BE DOING BETTER.

4) RECENT EVENTS AGAINST ANAHEIM REALLY EXPOSED LUCIC FOR WHAT HE IS…....... THATS WHY EVERYTIME HE IS INVOLVED HE GETS THE MOST COMMENTS BECAUSE HE IS A BIG PU$$Y   ENOUGH SAID
