On Tuesday Adam Proteau of The Hockey News reported that Georges Laraque injured his shoulder.
The Tribune-Review has a follow-up:
Right wing Georges Laraque was in Pittsburgh to undergo an MRI on his injured shoulder, and the results were negative. The Penguins believe Laraque suffered the injury during an offseason training regimen. Team doctors advised rest for Laraque, who should be ready for training camp.

Canadian sports websites
A couple of people have emailed me asking why I usually only highlight videos from ESPN and Fox Sports. While I have linked to some on Sportsnet and a few on TSN, those videos have to be hunted down while both ESPN and Fox make it possible to subscribe to videos via RSS. I also run into problems with TSN videos sometimes (frequently in Firefox). For those curious some sample vids: TSN (Briere not signing) and Sportsnet (Cowan signing). Sportsline also has videos, but also doesn’t provide a feed for them (and specifically, hockey vids). I linked to NBC Sports videos numerous times through the playoffs.
The 2007 NHL Entry Draft is complete. The top two picks both being American got a little talk in the States. Any positive hockey talk here towards the end of June is always a plus. A quick round-up of some draft links below.

For those who didn’t catch the update in the Cup coverage post: the Ducks will be submitting a list of 52 names to be engraved on the Cup, and I’m told there’s no games played requirement. Therefore, fan favorite George Parros shouldn’t have any issue having his name engraved on the Stanley cup.
Bring them back
More Parros and Ducks news: George Parros and Travis Moen have been re-signed. They were each signed to two-year extensions.
Instigate this
The Fort Wayne Komets have asked the UHL to ditch the instigator:
The Komets are proposing the UHL get rid of the veteran rule, drop the instigator rule and expand the rosters by one so each team can have a purpose player if they like. The salary cap may go to $13,000 from $11,000, meaning the UHL will be paying significantly higher average salaries than the CHL and ECHL. They’d like to keep the four rookie rule.
More instigator talk from Derek Boogaard:
“I think they should take the instigator out,” the Regina native said.
“Like Don said, the best players can’t play the way they can. Look at the Chris Simon (stick-swinging incident). It’s a bad thing for hockey, but if that instigator rule wasn’t in the league, Chris Simon would have just grabbed Ryan Hollweg and taught him a lesson. And I bet you Ryan Hollweg wouldn’t have done it again.”

On the Cup
I’ve already received a couple of emails asking me if George Parros‘ name will be on the Cup. The standard is that a player has to appear in 40 regular season games or just one Finals game to have their name engraved. Parros played 32 regular season games for the Ducks, and five postseason games, none in the Finals. However, a team can petition to have others included. I’m sure the Ducks will do so for Parros and I’ll post an update when I hear anything official.
Update Jun 11 200am: Like the last few teams before them, the Ducks will be submitting a list of 52 names to be engraved on the Cup, and I’m told there’s no games played requirement.
FM “Champs” Too
Just a reminder that the Ducks were the 2006-07 fighting major leaders. The Cup champs are always mimicked by other teams the following season, and we hope that tradition continues.
I’ll be updating the links above over the course of the next day.
Ottawa Senators, the brink; the brink, Ottawa Senators.
The Sens have a huge hole to climb out of now going back to Anaheim down three games to one.
What? You just said it’s finally a series. Well, it is/was. The Sens lost both of the first games by a goal, took a game, and then lost again by just one. While the Cup seems like it’s slipping away from Ottawa, it has been a close series.
Chris Neil is a player you love or love to hate, so I’ve put up a few of his fights for his fanboys and haters.

Grapes
Don Cherry was on the NBC broadcast with Brett Hull last night (which was simulcasted by CBC). It was definitely entertaining and Hull and Cherry decided to talk about whatever they felt like.
Fighting was a big topic, of course, and Cherry let everyone from president of NBC Sports, Dick Ebersol to the NHL know that trying to tone down the game isn’t what fans the fans want.
NBC Sports decided to take it to their website. The current poll on their NHL page: Do you agree with Don Cherry that fighting is an integral and necessary part of hockey? The response is overwhelmingly “yes” at the moment.
NBC posts videos of many segments, I’m sure they’ll have one of Cherry up soon and I’ll update here with that.
More on NBC
Elisha Cuthbert, Sean Avery‘s girlfriend, was on Late Night With Conan O’Brien last night/tonight.
She was on the show to promote her movie Captivity, but eventually the hockey talk started. Cuthbert, a Canadian who’s always been a known hockey fan, spoke of going to Avery’s games and enjoying watching him get into a fight (she’s convinced he’s good at it, I won’t tell either of them otherwise). Hopefully a segment of that will be posted to NBC’s site as well.

The Sens battled back from a one-goal deficit three times before Dean McAmmond put Ottawa up over the Ducks for good. We’ve now got at least a five-game series and I’m sure fans in the Canadian capital wouldn’t mind seeing a game six played there.
Game three gets rough
Early in the third Chris Pronger threw an elbow at McAmmond’s head. McAmmond needed to be helped off the ice. No penalty was called on the play, but I’m sure the league will announce a suspension soon. One-two games is my guess.
Less than a minute later things got messy. No majors were called, but six players picked up roughing penalties (Corey Perry a double-roughing).

With the Ducks up 2-0, tomorrow’s game in Ottawa is everything. We’ll either have a series, or just get to wait until Giguere and the Ducks take the Cup back in SoCal. The Ducks D and Giguere don’t look like they can be cracked right now, but a change of venue could be just what the Sens need.
