Steve MacIntyre Will Fight You

The Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins played the Springfield Falcons Sunday afternoon. The 3595 in attendance were treated to a good AHL game. Close, a few goals and a couple of fights.

Shortly after the Falcons went up a goal Steve MacIntyre went after Springfield. Yes, the team. It reportedly started with Greg Amadio, and then he was taking on whichever Falcon grabbed him, popping a few, including goaltender Paul Dainton - twice.

MacIntyre, one of the toughest players in all of hockey, picked up 17 minutes for his trouble. Those minutes comprised of a crosschecking minor, elbowing major and match penalty according to the official boxscore. Match penalties in the AHL come with a $200 fine and the league president investigating the matter. Word is there will be a ruling regarding the situation on Tuesday.

On this day

Six years ago to the day (Mar 11), Scott Parker climbed the boards to get at Brendan Witt and most likely would have taken on any Predator who got in his way. He was pulled down and escorted out.

Another skate-around

It'd be hard not to bring up Stu Grimson going crazy, needing to be restrained by linesmen, teammates and even coach Mike Keenan. Bryan Marchment tried to take a run at Wendel Clark. Clark stood up to it, then wound up pairing off with Steve Smith as a meleé ensued. Grimson then was hard to control for minutes, doing whatever he could to get at Clark, but never succeeded.

MacIntyre's moment is pretty quick and easy compared to that and in no way comes close to Jeff Kugel sucker-punching Juri Golicic and then chasing Chris Minard around.
