Jamie Benn Picks Up Gordie, Wayne Simmonds Adds Another

Highlighting yesterday's action was an All-Star fight between Joe Thornton and Jamie Benn. Midway through the second period Thornton gave Benn some stick, had some words and then squared off in the most dramatic fashion. After disgarding each piece of equipment individually and casually placing helmets on the ice they grabbed a hold of one another and fired some non-casual shots. A fierce back and forth, it was 20 seconds of action before they fell to the ice.

This was Thornton's second fight in eight days. Since the 2003-04 season he's only had two fights in a season once.

Benn assisted on Dallas' go-ahead goal late in the second period and then scored late in the third to make it 3-1, putting the game out of reach for the San Jose Sharks with little time left. A Gordie Howe Hat Trick and a huge impact in the Dallas Stars win. Thornton had an assist on the Sharks lone goal.

Wayne Simmonds had a GHHT earlier in the week against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He went for another yesterday versus the Winnipeg Jets.

Simmonds took on Chris Thorburn midway through the first period in an even scrap. He assisted on Brayden Schenn's goal late in the same period. Simmonds then scored the game-winner for the Philadelphia Flyers in the middle of the third.
