Carkner Accused of Flicking Blood

Some might be surprised at how well Matt Carkner handled himself against Derek Boogaard during Thursday's game between the Sens and Rangers. Others might focus on what Carkner did after the bout.

The details are sketchy, but the video (which can be seen after the jump) doesn't lie. On his way to the penalty box, Carkner wiped blood from his face and flicked it towards the Rangers' bench as he skated by. He was given a ten-minute misconduct and the league will likely have a look at the incident.

The source of the blood is uncertain. Carkner suffered a cut above his left eye and Boogaard may have suffered a broken nose, just days after returning from a shoulder injury.

Gillies, Thornton meet again

Trevor Gillies and Shawn Thornton renewed acquaintances during last night's Isles-Bruins clash, fighting for the first time since a meeting in the AHL over four years ago. Zenon Konopka and Adam McQuaid also dropped the gloves in the game.

Other bouts from Thursday included a third dance between Jared Boll and Cam Janssen as well as a fun scrap featuring Kyle Clifford and Tim Jackman.

that sounds like something that Carkner would do , he is an asshole . i have seen him when he was with A.H.L Sens and he is a pussy . he could not fight in the A.H.L. , nor can he fight in the N.H.L. !

You would all be screaming for a 10 game suspension, about the dangerous and reckless action, about how class-less a move this is, yada yada. You would be FREAKING OUT. Nothing short of a lifetime ban would suit you. Instead, you see this idiot, pulling this crap, and all you can say is... doesn't look bad. Also, I couldn't pay attention to the flicking - was too busy staring at that giant gash on his face... Didn't look like Boogard hit him that hard.

Also Carkner broke Boogard's nose,doubt that qualifies as "pussying out"

Based on Carkners interview he said the Linesman said the other team complained so they had to give him the penalty. What is this crap, who is influencing who. Officials in Hockey have ruined the game.

Posted by JB on 2010-12-10 11:59:01 The only thing Matt Carkner is guilty of is class. He totally wiped his cut and flicked it at the Rangers bench but unless that is super blood it went nowhere. Carkner was 3 to 4 feet away from the players bench and skating by pretty fast. Blood is pretty thick so I can really imagine flying blood getting all over Ranger players. The last team who should be upset about a class act is the Rangers. Just talk to Sean Avery. Hockey is the bread and butter of Canada but gotta love a good old fashioned American slugfest. Jared Boll and Cam Janssen showed us why more and more hockey fighters are coming out of the states.

It kind of looks like he's doing the talking hand thing or saluting the players because he clobbered their tough guy. But he could also be flicking blood. It's hard to say for certain from the video.
