The Maple Leafs went into Ottawa and handed the Senators a 5-1 loss at home, but a rivalry that's been quiet the last couple of games has shown some life again.

An aggressive Matt Carkner went straight after Colton Orr off of a faceoff, but a stick and a slip ruined what could have been another addition to a great series of fights. It still goes down as the sixth fight between the two, but you won't see it on any highlight reels. A quick list of Carkner-Orr bouts can be seen after the jump.

However, Orr did get some more fight out of the night. A little over halfway through the third period, with the game basically decided, Orr was able to get his hands on Chris Neil, who is always a part of the extracurricular activities. While the fight was Orr's, Neil put up a good fight against one of the NHL's toughest players.

Classic bout

John Erskine and Mike Rupp dropped the gloves in last night's outdoors Winter Classic. Midway through the first period, before it got rainy, they exchanged big right hands in front 68,111 roaring fans.

Erskine's having his best season to date, and I'm not just referring to his probable fight of the year against Eric Boulton. The defenseman has played 38 games and has already matched his career-high of 9 points. He's on pace to break all of his season highs, from games played to goals to PIMs.

Update 925pm: I've confirmed with Erskine that Rupp asked to stop the fight and that while in the box Rupp said his contact had flipped.

guys i am a leaf fan and Orr is my fav player in noway am i ragging on him i just think he's hurt and that's what i was told by someone now if it's true or not I'll never know but he just seems not like himself when he's fought this year but man the guy is a warrior
Posted by Gary on 2011-01-03 13:42:05 Playing hurt is part of the game and if Colton Orr is quote unquote "hurt" he is still currently playing so officially he is aok. Personally I like Orr. He takes pride in his job. He's no better skill wise then any other fighter in the NHL. He only averages 1 to 4 points a season which is not good at all. But he does provide something that yes indeed gets him 82 games a season and a 7 figure contract. Heart. He is the heart and soul of any hockey team he plays for. That neverending smile during and after all his fights is a positive as well. Who knows why he gets 82 games. Maybe he puts in more of an effort in practice. Maybe he's the first one on the ice and the last one to leave. The fact is he is doing something right, earning lots of games and big money. Lets not forget about Chris Neil. He is without a doubt the most skilled fighter in hockey. He's averaged over 10 points a season his entire career and he will do that again this year as well. He's a stocky grunt who will take on anybody and everybody. Alot of haters call him a coward who only hides behind Brian McGrattan and Matt Carkner. I beg to differ. Before either one of those two were in the show Neil was taking on all comers then like he still is now. I take exception to any fan of the gamers calling anyone of them goons. Show a little respect. These guys have the toughest job in sports. You don't think so? Go get into a fight. Pick a fight with your buddy. With your brother. With a stranger. Take a punch in the face. The eyes. The nose. See how it makes you feel. Lots of bangers on the shelf right now. Get well wishes to Derek Boogaard, Eric Godard, D.J. King and Raitis Ivanans who hopefully will make it back from a nasty concussion at the hands of Steve MacIntyre.

He is third in the league for fight this year and he has fought tough guys and aside of one fight he has won all of his fights or had competitive losses. Just look at his fight card. He has being doing great and has been extremely smart this year as always and that is why he gets 82 games a year unlike goons such as big mac, king, barch ect. I highly doubt there is anything wrong with him. Everytime he is in a situation where the team needs some energy and the opposing team has someone who fights Orr steps up, everytime a dick like stortini does something greesy Orr steps up. He has been an awesome enforcer for the leafs and i dont expect that to change. Anyone who disagrees is a french fuck or an edmonton hillbilly or tree hugger alike and can go pound sand.
Posted by Riley on 2011-01-02 18:26:40 okay my cousin lives in Toronto and also lives in the building of one of the leaf players i can't say who but its my understanding that Colton Orr is hurt and this is why he hasn't been fighting much at all this year and not looked like himself. now i will also say this i don't know how true this is but this is what my cousin was told Colton hasn't looked himself this year i seriously think he needs some help and not Brown he needs another heavy weight to take the load off Leafs need a dman who can drop the gloves!
