Kalamazoo's Kory Karlander Named IHL MVP

ROCHESTER, MI - The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Tuesday that Kalamazoo Wings center Kory Karlander has been named the 2007-08 IHL Most Valuable Player as selected by league head coaches, general managers, and members of the media.
The 36-year-old native of Melita, Manitoba, is currently leading the IHL in scoring with 89 points (37g, 52a). He is also tied for the league lead in power play assists (25) and is second behind teammate Glenn Detulleo with 52 assists.
Karlander put together several scoring streaks throughout the course of the season. He had eight scoring streaks with six of those eight streaks lasting six or more games. He is tied for the second longest point streak in the IHL at 13 games. During that span, he scored seven goals and dished out 16 assists for a total of 23 points. Out of the 71 games played so far this season, he has had 26 multi-point games.
Karlander recorded a hat trick on December 14th, scoring two even-strength and one power play goal in a 7-0 victory over Muskegon. He currently leads the K-Wings in points (89) and shooting percentage (15.9%). He is tied for first in shorthanded goals (3) and assists (52).
Karlander was called up to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League back in mid-March. He played two games, scoring one point on an assist and was plus-one. He earned the National City Forward of the Week honor for Week 15 and was named the National City Forward of the Month for December. Karlander will be presented with the award on Saturday, April 12th.
