Fort Wayne's Luciano Aquino Named IHL Rookie of the Year

ROCHESTER, MI - The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Tuesday that Fort Wayne Komets right wing Luciano Aquino has been named the 2007-08 Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Year as selected by league head coaches, general managers, and members of the media.
The 23-year-old Missassauga, Ontario native has recorded 86 points in 74 games played so far in his IHL rookie season, with two remaining on the regular season. He currently leads all IHL rookies in points (86), goals (38), assists (48), power play goals (15) and is tied for first with five game winning goals. He also leads the Komets in points, goals, power play goals and is second in assists.
Aquino has had 25 multi-point games during the season. He recorded two hat tricks, his first of the year on November 3rd in a 5-2 victory over Muskegon. In that game, he scored one even-strength, one power play and one shorthanded tally against the Fury. His second came on March 28th, when he scored an individual game league-high three power play goals in a 4-3 win over Kalamazoo.
Aquino has earned the National City Forward of the Week honor once, Aquafina Rookie of the Week honor three times and Aquafina Rookie of the Month three times during the season. He will be presented with the award on Sunday, April 13th.
