Bloomington Sets New IHL Record

ROCHESTER, MI - The Bloomington PrairieThunder has set a new IHL record, as well as a professional record, for the fastest four goals scored by one team. They scored the four tallies in 35 seconds Saturday in a 9-4 victory in Flint. Bloomington’s Jon Booras, John Nail and Neil Clark all lit the lamp within 20 seconds, then Brett Holmberg notched one in 15 seconds later. The previous IHL record was 52 seconds held by Dick Pontarollo (2 goals), Jack Novak and Roy Hammond of the Toledo Mercurys on November 4, 1953.
Earning seven out of eight points last week, the Port Huron Icehawks (84 points) became the second team to clinch a spot in the 2008 Turner Cup Playoff. They secured their spot Friday night with a 5-3 win over Muskegon, coupled with a Kalamazoo loss to Flint. The Icehawks have been on fire recently, posting a 9-1-1-2 record in their last 13 games. They have not lost in regulation since March 21st. Port Huron is the second team in the IHL to earn a spot in the playoffs. They need one point or a Flint loss to secure second place and home ice advantage in the first round.
Fort Wayne goaltender Kevin Reiter recorded his eighth shutout of the season Saturday in Muskegon. He closed the door on all 22 shots he faced from the Fury. The win Saturday was the second time this season he has recorded a shutout versus Muskegon, the first coming on January 11th. He leads all IHL goaltenders in shutouts and ties the Fort Wayne Komets franchise record for most shutouts in a season.

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (2-2-0-0) – The PrairieThunder scored what is a professional hockey record four goals in a 35-second span at Flint on its way to a franchise-high nine goals in a 9-4 victory. Bloomington is undefeated in 11 games when scoring five or more goals, 17-3-0-1 record when leading after two periods and 19-1-2-2 when allowing two or fewer goals. Don Parsons has scored 15 points in six of the last seven games. Jon Booras had a recent stretch where he scored one point in 10 games, but in the last five games he has scored eight points. The PrairieThunder definitely seems to be a second-half team in its first two years of existence. In both seasons during the first three months, the team has an 18-39-4-2 record (.333 winning percentage) and during the final four months of each season the team is 37-43-4-3 (.534). This season the PrairieThunder is 20-20-1-3 over its last 44 games.
Flint Generals - (2-2-0-0) – The Flint Generals are just one win away from qualifying for the Turner Cup playoffs. It would be back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since 1999-2000 in Flint Generals franchise history. The Generals have been shooting the puck in recent games, totaling 158 shots in their last four games and over 200 shots combined in their last five games played. Goaltender Chad Alban made is return to the Flint Generals net on Friday night after missing three and a half months due to injury and already has a 2-1 mark with a 2.30 GAA. Forward Josef Fojtik has been on fire the last 10 games with a total of 11 points, including four goals and seven assists. Despite finishing off with a 1-2 record against the Muskegon Fury and Bloomington PrairieThunder over the weekend, the Generals have a combined 16 wins this season against them on the season.
Fort Wayne Komets - (3-0-0-0) – The Komets completed Week 25 winning all three road games to set a new Fort Wayne franchise record of 113 points in a season while tying the team record of 53 wins. Four teams previously held the Fort Wayne record of 112 points. The Komets are one win shy of the franchise record of 32 home wins in a season and can break that record with the two remaining home games this week. Series finales: Friday night the Komets finished their season series with the PrairieThunder with a 5-3 win at Bloomington to take the series 11-4-1. Sunday the Komets completed their season series with the Icehawks with a 3-2 shootout win at Port Huron. It was Fort Wayne's 10th straight win over the Icehawks to give the Komets the series 12-2-1. More Komet streaks: Winger Luciano Aquino set an IHL season-high point scoring streak of 16 games (13g, 14a) before having it snapped Sunday. P.C. Drouin has a seven-game point-scoring streak and IHL-high assist scoring streak (2g, 9a). Goaltender Nick Boucher has a four-game winning streak, is unbeaten in regulation 16 straight games (14-0-1-1) and is unbeaten in regulation in the last 22 games he has started. Goalie Kevin Reiter is riding a nine-game winning streak.
Kalamazoo Wings - (0-1-1-1) – Tyler Willis has scored four of his six goals against Bloomington. This season, Kalamazoo has allowed six power-play goals against Port Huron; however, they have struck for five shorthanded goals versus the Icehawks. With three games remaining in the regular season, Kalamazoo trails Muskegon by one point for fourth place and trails Flint by three points. Nick Bootland is on a seven-game point streak. Bootland also leads the league in goals scored with 43. Kalamazoo is tied with Fort Wayne for the league lead in shorthanded goals scored on the road (7). The K-Wings are on a four-game winless streak (0-1-2-1). Glenn Detulleo recorded his 100th career goal last Friday night versus Flint. Kalamazoo is 19-2-1-3 when leading after the first period. Kory Karlander and Glenn Detulleo share the league lead in assist with 52.
Muskegon Fury – (1-3-0-0) – The Muskegon Fury pulled three points ahead of Kalamazoo for the final spot in the IHL playoffs on Wednesday, then watched that lead diminish to one point over the weekend, as the Fury finished the week 1-3-0-0. With no points Wednesday, the 13-game point streak of Dan Riedel was snapped. The streak was the second-longest in the International Hockey League this season. Riedel’s 27 goals, 22 assists and 49 points lead all Fury rookies. The Fury’s Robin Bouchard scored his 30th goal of the season on Friday during the Fury’s loss to Port Huron. Bouchard has now scored at least 30 goals 12 times in his professional career. Muskegon’s David Segal played in his 100th career game Saturday at Flint. Segal is second in the IHL and leads the Fury with 262 penalty minutes this season. Fury defenseman Philippe Plante scored his 300th career point Friday, assisting on Robin Bouchard’s power play goal against the Port Huron Ice Hawks. Plante and Bouchard are tied for the team lead with 41 assists this season. Mark Cadotte is six assists away from 300 for his career and 11 goals shy of 200 for his career. David Herring needs three points for 50 in his career. Robin Bouchard needs five goals for 600 in his career.
Port Huron Icehawks - (3-0-0-1) – Several Icehawks are riding significant scoring streaks. Center Kris Vernarsky is on a seven game streak for points (3g, 6a) and a four game streak for assists (5a), Tab Lardner is on a six game streak for points (4g, 5a) and Jamie Carroll, whose five game goal streak was snapped Sunday, is on a six game point streak (6g, 4a). Goalie Larry Sterling has not lost in regulation since February 23rd and is a stellar 7-0-2-1 in his last ten games. He is currently is currently ranked third in the league for goals against average with a 2.50 GAA, and is tied for second with Fort Wayne’s Nick Boucher in both wins (23) and save percentage (.911). The Icehawks have now wrapped up the regular season series with every team in the league except for Kalamazoo, who they will face in a home-and-home series this weekend. The Icehawks finished every season series with the advantage, except for the series with Fort Wayne. The Icehawks most prolific period this season continues to be the third stanza. They lead the league for third period goals with 95.
