Generals and K-Wings Have Powerful Weekend

ROCHESTER, MI - Last week, the Generals were second in the IHL with a 19.4% power play record, going six for 42 in their five games played. This week, Flint scored six power play goals in three of their four games played, bumping them up to first place (20%). Flint newcomer Justin Depretis scored four of the six power play goals for the Generals. Five of Depretis’ six goals so far this season (10 games) have come on the man advantage.
After going three for 21 (16.6%) on the power play in three games played last week, the K-Wings needed to recharge their special teams. This week, Kalamazoo scored seven power play goals in two of their four games played, moving them to fourth place with 17.4%. Kalamazoo’s Nick Bootland scored three of the seven goals for the K-Wings, all three against the Generals. Bootland currently leads the IHL in power play goals with 16.
Fort Wayne is the only team in the IHL to outscore their opponents in all three periods during regulation. The Komets have scored 25 more goals in the first, 26 in the second and 17 more than the opposition in the third period. Fort Wayne is also the only team to not score a goal or earn a victory in overtime (0-5).

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (1-3-0-0) – Don Parsons recorded the 600th assist of his career Sunday and needs one point to reach 1,250. He also tied the franchise record for points scored in a season with 55. Jon Booras has scored at least one point (9 goals, 5 assists) in 12 of the last 14 games, including a point in 10 of the last 11. Leo Thomas has scored at least one point in nine of the last 11 games (3 goals, 9 assists). The PrairieThunder had a power play goal Sunday to break a five-game of drought of 18 straight attempts without a score. The PrairieThunder has just 2 power play goals in its last 30 attempts. Bloomington has a 16-0-1-1 record when allowing two or fewer goals in a game and a 10-2-1-0 record when leading after the first period and a 12-2-0-0 mark when leading after the second period. The team is 16-4-1-0 when scoring first.
Flint Generals - (1-3-0-0) – The Flint Generals had their three-game home winning streak against the Fort Wayne Komets snapped on Sunday afternoon with that 5-2 loss. With a victory over the Kalamazoo Wings on Wednesday morning, the Generals are now 1-0-0-1 in early morning games with two to come Wednesday, March 12th at Kalamazoo and Wednesday, March 26th at home versus Muskegon. Since joining the Generals, forward Justin Depretis has eight points, including six goals in 10 games. Depretis has notched two first goals in his last four starts. Jaroslav Cesky has five goals in his last 10 games including three goals in his last two games at Kalamazoo. The Generals resume their rivalry with Bloomington this Friday and Saturday at Perani Arena. Flint is 8-3 versus Bloomington including a 3-1 mark at Perani Arena and 5-2 at Bloomington.
Fort Wayne Komets - (3-0-0-0) – The Komets reached 80 points with a 4-2 home win against Bloomington Friday in their 55th game of the season. Last season (106 points) it took 61 games for Fort Wayne to reach 80 points. The Komet's record for most points in a season is 112 set four times (83-84, 85-86, 91-92 and 03-04). Most recently, in 2003-04, the Komets hit 80 points after 56 games. Komet streaks: Three players had points in each Komet game played. Colin Chaulk (C) extended his point-scoring streak to six games (3g, 6a), P.C. Drouin (LW) has a four-game point streak (5g, 5a) and Mitch Woods (RW) developed a three-game point streak passing 4 assists. Goaltender Nick Boucher is unbeaten in regulation in 14 straight games he has started (13-0-1-0). The Komets are unbeaten in regulation six straight and are riding a four-game winning streak. The Komets have a 16-game home winning streak and five-game road unbeaten streak (4-0-1-0). Fort Wayne's record for consecutive home wins is 18 set in 1963-64. Shooting Komets: The Komets have out-shot opponents in 16 straight games. Fort Wayne had out-shot their opponents by at least 10 shots in 11 consecutive games before being held to only 27 shots against the General's 23 at Flint Sunday. Fort Wayne is averaging a league-high 34.3 shots per game and allowing an IHL lowest 26.4 shots per game.
Kalamazoo Wings - (2-2-0-0) – Lucas Drake is on a six-game point and three game goal streak. Kory Karlander is on a five-game point streak. Nick Bootland is on a three-game goal streak. Glenn Detulleo in on a five-game point streak. Brian White played in his 600th career game last Saturday versus Flint. Nick Bootland played in his 700th career game last Sunday against Bloomington. Glenn Detulleo is two goals shy of 100 in his career. Travis Granbois is two games shy of 100 in his career. Kalamazoo will start a three-game home stand this Saturday versus Muskegon. The K-Wings start the week three points behind the Fury for the final playoff spot in the league.
Muskegon Fury - (2-2-0-0) – Fury rookie defenseman Adam Bartholomay scored four of the team’s nine goals this week. He has 13 goals on the season, leading all IHL defenseman. Teammate Philippe Plante added three assists this week, and leads all IHL defensemen in that category with 29. Wednesday, the Fury were minus two of their top three scorers, as well as their second-highest scoring defenseman. Billy Collins retuned to the ice Sunday after missing a week, while Mike Watt played in all three games over the weekend after missing more than a week of action. Defenseman Russ Moyer, injured while playing with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, is more than a week away from returning to the Muskegon lineup. Forward Rafal Martynowski suffered an injury Wednesday in Bloomington and has been placed on injured reserve, while Kyle Kos also missed Sunday’s game due to injury. Muskegon’s Robin Bouchard is one goal away from 450 in his Muskegon Fury career. He is also 14 goals shy of 600 and seven points shy of 1,200 for his career. Philippe Plante needs 12 points for 300 in his career. Kyle Kos is one assist away from 100 for his professional career. Mark Cadotte is eight assists away from 300 for his career and 14 goals shy of 200 for his career. Chris Kovalcik is nine games away from 200 for his career.
Port Huron Icehawks - (2-0-1-0) – The Icehawks picked up five of six possible points over the weekend, with two wins and one overtime loss in a crucial three game series with Muskegon. The wins, coupled with three consecutive Flint losses, sent the Icehawks into sole possession of second place in the IHL with 63 points in the standings, one point ahead of Flint and four points ahead of Muskegon. With six weeks left to play in the regular season, the Icehawks have just ten home contests and seven road games remaining. The Icehawks have been strong in their last ten games, with a record of 6-3-1-0 in their last ten outings. With a goal and an assist on Friday and an assist on Saturday, Kris Vernarsky extended his point streak to five games with nine points (3g, 6a) in that span. The streak was snapped on Sunday. With two fights over the weekend, Jeff Zehr finished the weekend with 23 penalty minutes. He has now posted penalty minutes in his last seven games, with 35 PIM in that span. Brent Hughes reached 100 assists for his professional career with a goal and assist in Friday’s game. With a win on Friday, goaltender Larry Sterling capped off a strong February. He finished the month with a record of 6-3-0-0, a goals against average of 2.12 and a save percentage of .925.
