Fury Sweep Three Games in Three Nights

ROCHESTER, MI - The Fury are on fire as they swept all three games played this weekend, earning all six possible points available and extending their winning streak to four games. They are riding a five game road winning streak as well, which is tied for a league-high with Port Huron. Muskegon started last week in last place in the IHL, three points behind fourth place Kalamazoo. They have ended the week tied for fourth place with Kalamazoo, just three points behind third place Port Huron.

Flint forward Jared Dumba recorded the IHL’s third hat trick of the season Friday (12/7). Dumba scored two power play goals and one even strength tally to help push the Generals to a 7-4 victory over Bloomington. The seven goals scored by Flint ties a league-high with the Fort Wayne Komets, who scored seven goals on November 18th vs. Port Huron.

Kalamazoo center Kory Karlander is finding ways to score for the K-Wings. He is currently on an eight game point streak, scoring seven goals and dishing out five assists during those games (12 points). Karlander currently leads the K-Wings in points (21) and shooting percentage (14.5%).

AROUND THE “I”

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (0-1-1-0) – Rookie Brett Holmberg has five assists in three of the last four games, including two on back-to-back nights. He had only two assists in the first 15 games and two of his assists were on short-handed goals by Sam Ftorek. Through the first 15 games, the PrairieThunder had no short-handed goals. In its last four games, the team has scored three with Sam Ftorek getting two of them. Ftorek has scored at least one point in five of the last seven games since missing two games. He has scored five goals, including an unassisted short-handed goal, with three assists. Don Parsons had a five-game scoring streak snapped in Saturday's loss to Muskegon, while Cory Laylin had a four-game streak snapped. Laylin currently leads all defenseman in goals scored with five and is tied for second in scoring (18 points). The PrairieThunder have a record of 5-1-0-0 when leading after 40 minutes of play.

Flint Generals - (2-0-0-0) – The Flint Generals remain unbeaten in regulation on the road this season, following the win over the Icehawks on Saturday night. The Generals are 4-0-0-2 away from home. Greg Bullock has moved into a tie for the lead in assists in the IHL with 14 following this past weekend’s play. He has three assists in his last two games. Jason Cirone has been scoring big goals at important times for the Generals this season. He notched his third game winning goal of the season which leads the team. The Flint Generals hadn’t had much success when they were tied after 40 minutes of play or were trailing this season. That all changed on the weekend as in both games they managed win the contest when tied after two periods of play. The Generals continue to lead the league in goals for per game and have now moved up to second in goals against in the IHL following a solid game on Saturday night. With a 2-1 win over Port Huron Saturday, the Generals posted their first victory at McMorran Place Arena this season. It’s their fourth point in their last three visits there after having two shootout losses on their previous two games.

Fort Wayne Komets - (2-1-0-0) – The Komets reclaimed first place in the IHL taking two out of three games played for the week.
After going winless in back-to-back home games a week earlier and falling to second place, the Komets recovered to earn four points with back-to-back road wins Saturday and Sunday and lead the IHL with an 11-5-2-1 record and 25 points after completing eight weeks of the 2007-08 campaign. Saturday's 3-1 Fort Wayne win at Kalamazoo was the Komet's fourth straight win of the season over the Wings. The Komets are undefeated against Kalamazoo in regulation in five meetings this season (4-0-1-0). Including last season, the Komets are undefeated in regulation by Kalamazoo 12 straight. Colin Chaulk (C) has a five-game point streak (1g, 4a, 5pts.) and four-game assist scoring streak (4a) after getting points in all three games played for the week. Saturday marked Chaulk's 300th career Fort Wayne game (regular season). Rookie Maksim Shirokov (D) scored his first North American pro goal in the Komet's 3-1 win at Kalamazoo Saturday.

Kalamazoo Wings - (1-1-0-1) – K-Wings fans had a charitable weekend. Fans tossed 1,256 bears during the 8th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Night presented by Kodiak Construction, The CW 7 and WKFR on Saturday and eight people, including Athletic Trainer, Elizabeth Hughes donated hair for Locks of Love on Sport Clips Haircuts Day. K-Wings are currently on a four-game home winless streak (0-2-0-2). Jeremy Symington leads the league in save percentage (.934) and shares the league lead in victories (7). Jeremy is also third in saves (341) and second in GAA (2.31). Mike Manley is three points shy of 100 in his career. Flo Iberer leads all IHL defenseman in scoring with 18 points and the entire IHL in plus/minus at +13. The K-Wings have mustered 120 shots on goal in its last three home games, which is an average of 40 per game. So far this season, the K-Wings have had a full 19-man roster for four games and have accumulated 75 man-games missed due to injuries or illness. Kalamazoo will play 11 games over the next 20 nights. Kalamazoo has not lost in regulation when leading after two periods of play (7-0-0-2).

Muskegon Fury - (3-0-0-0) – With their 3-1 victory Friday night over Fort Wayne, the Fury has won back-to-back games on home ice for the first time this season. In his first start of the season, goaltender Clayton Pool continued his mastery of the PrairieThunder in Bloomington. When the Fury defeated Bloomington Saturday night 2-1 in overtime, Pool ran his record there to a perfect 4-0-0-0 with a GAA of 0.75 and a total of three goals against. Saturday night’s victory was also the franchise’s 650th victory. During the four game winning streak, Mike Watt has delivered the game-winner in two of those four victories. In the overtime and shootout thus far this season, the Fury have posted a record of 2-0-0-0 with Robin Bouchard scoring the game winning goal in both OT/SO victories. In only his second game with the Fury, defenseman Adam Bartholomay scored a key clutch game-tying goal in the third period at Kalamazoo to erase a Fury 2-0 deficit and forge a 2-2 tie.

Port Huron Icehawks - (0-3-0-0) – The Icehawks posted three consecutive losses on home ice this weekend, with Friday’s loss to Kalamazoo snapping a five game win streak. Port Huron now sits at third place in the IHL with 22 points in the standings, three points behind first place Fort Wayne. Goalie Marty Magers was called up on Friday to the AHL Rockford IceHogs. He returned to the Icehawks starting lineup on Sunday, when he started in goal versus Fort Wayne. Magers attended September training camp with the IceHogs, the AAA affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks. Also, rookie forwards Neil Clark and Jamie Carroll have both been called up to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Tab Lardner continues to share first place in the league for scoring with 23 points, including 13 goals and 10 assists. He posted two goals over the weekend and extended a scoring streak to nine games with the goal on Friday. He did not pick up any points in Sundays game. Kalamazoo continues to be the only IHL foe the Icehawks have yet to beat this weekend. The Icehawks are now 0-3 for the season series with the K-Wings.
