Another Special Week in the "I"

ROCHESTER, MI - All six member clubs had a surge on special teams as power play goals were a regular occurrence during the sixth week of IHL action. There were a total of 21 power play goals scored with six of those coming from the Kalamazoo Wings and five coming from the Fort Wayne Komets. There was not a shortage of shorthanded goals either as six tallies was registered, with Flint and Fort Wayne each having two.

Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard scored the league’s second hat trick of the season Saturday in Flint. He scored one even strength and two power play goals to boost the Fury to a 4-3 win over the Generals. Bouchard leads the IHL in power play goals scored with six.

Port Huron continues to climb up in the standings with help from rookie forward Jamie Carroll. The rookie, who is tied for the league lead in scoring, also leads the Icehawks in goals scored (10) and is tied for the team lead in points (19) with teammate Brian Felsner. Carroll leads all rookies in points (19), goals (10), assists (9), shots (72), and is tied for first in power play goals (3).

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (2-2-0-0) – Forward Don Parsons became the first player in PrairieThunder history to score four points in a game when he had two goals and two assists against Kalamazoo on November 25th. Defenseman Jeff Ewasko, the team's 6-foot-7 gentle giant, scored his first goal of the season on Nov. 24 and promptly did a body slam into the glass to celebrate. Defenseman Pascal Bedard had scored only one point in the PrairieThunder's first 11 games. He has scored five points in the last four games. The PrairieThunder snapped a five-game losing streak on the road with its victory at Kalamazoo on Nov. 25 and has out shot five of its last six opponents. The PrairieThunder had gone six-plus periods without a point - a span of 135:15 -before erupting for three goals in the second period against Kalamazoo in a 5-1 victory on Nov. 21.

Flint Generals - (1-1-0-1) – The Flint Generals have two of the top four goaltenders currently in the International Hockey League. Chad Alban, who lost for the first time this season in regulation, is 2nd in goals against average at 2.33, while Eric Marvin has a 2.64 mark. After beginning the weekend third in the most penalty minutes in the IHL, the Flint Generals are now the most penalized team in the league at 416 minutes. Nick Tuzzolino and Jason Cirone lead the Generals in plus minus. Cirone is plus 11 and Tuzzolino is plus 10. Not only does Jordan Fox lead the Generals and the IHL points, but he is also leading the Generals in shots with 47.

Fort Wayne Komets - (2-1-0-0) – The Komets grabbed first place in the IHL earning four points for the week to improve to 9-3-1-1 and 20 points after six weeks of the 2007-08 campaign. The Komets are the first team to take sole possession of the top spot from Flint since November 4th. The Komets started the week with a seven game unbeaten streak and four game win streak and had it snapped with a 5-4 setback against Port Huron Thanksgiving night in Fort Wayne. It was the first home loss of the season for the Komets. Fort Wayne directed 25 second-period shots Saturday vs. Kalamazoo, the most shots in the 2nd period during an IHL game this season. Their defense has allowed a league-low 35 goals (2.50 goals against per game average) and the fewest shots on goal at 408 (29.1 per game). The Komets have the highest shots on goal average per game at 36.1 (505 shots in 14 games).

Kalamazoo Wings - (1-1-0-2) – Kalamazoo is unbeaten in regulation in its last three games. On the heels of playing four straight on the road and coming home yesterday, the K-Wings are heading back on the road for three straight games. John Miller, Flo Iberer and Kory Karlander are on three-game point streaks. Iberer leads all defensemen in points (13) and holds a share of the league lead in plus/minus (+13). Kory Karlander ranks tied for second in the league in assists with 11. The K-Wings have had 15 different players score goals this season, which ties them with Port Huron for the league lead. Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn scored with 4.7 seconds remaining in Sunday's game to force a shootout. Nick Bootland recorded his 400th career point on Saturday on a power-play goal. Joel Rechlicz leads the league in Majors with eight. Jeremy Symington leads the league in GAA at 2.32.

Muskegon Fury - (1-2-0-0) – Muskegon has lost three consecutive games at home (0-3-0-0) while they have won three in a row on the road (3-0-0-0). With their latest conquest in Flint, the Fury is a perfect 2-0-0-0 at Perani Arena this year. In his first ever start in goal, rookie Kyle McNulty posted the 4-3 victory Saturday night in Flint. Fury rookie left wing Justin Rohr scored his first ever professional goal Saturday night in Flint. His tie-breaking goal at 18:39 of the second period created a 3-2 Fury lead which they never relinquished. Rohr has the highest plus/minus rating for the Fury with plus-7. Robin Bouchard (655) is just nine games away from tying Scott Feasby (664) for the most games ever played by a Fury player. The Fury are three victories away from franchise win #650.

Port Huron Icehawks - (3-0-0-0) – The Icehawks posted three straight road wins over the weekend, including a win at Fort Wayne on Thanksgiving Day and wins at Bloomington on Friday and Saturday. The Icehawks have won four of their last five road contests and are 3-1 on a current six game road-stretch. Not only does Port Huron lead the IHL with 58 goals scored, four Icehawks are among the top 10 league scorers. The Icehawks scored four third-period goals Thursday for a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Fort Wayne. The victory marked the third time this season that the Icehawks have overcome a third-period deficit to claim victory. The Icehawks lead the league for third period scoring with 25 goals coming in the third. Forward Tab Lardner went on a tear over the weekend with four goals and an assist in the three wins. He also extended his scoring streak to seven games and goal scoring streak to four games.
