Komets Streak Along

ROCHESTER, MI - Fort Wayne dominated the IHL last week, winning all three games they played and extending their winning streak to four games. The Komets have not lost in regulation since November 2nd and are riding a league-high seven game unbeaten streak. They are also the only team who is left undefeated on home ice, coming out victorious in all five games played at Memorial Coliseum. Fort Wayne is currently tied for first place with the Flint Generals (16 points).

The Generals have stayed afloat the IHL standings after stellar performances from Jordan Fox, Jared Dumba and Jonathan Duchesneau. Fox and Dumba are riding three game goal streaks, scoring a goal in each game, while Fox and Duchesneau are riding three game assist streaks, dishing out four assists a piece.

It will be a tough week ahead for the Bloomington PrairieThunder and Kalamazoo Wings as each team plays four games over five nights during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Both teams are looking to move up in the IHL standings as Bloomington sits in last place with eight points (4-7-0-0) and Kalamazoo sits in fourth place with ten points (5-5-0-0).

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (0-2-0-0) – The PrairieThunder is 0 for 11 on power play opportunities in their last two games, while the opponent is 5 of 10. PrairieThunder defender Cory Laylin and wife, Stacy, welcomes son Bode into the world on Saturday. The PrairieThunder out shot Flint in both games last week, but still lost. It snapped a streak of four straight games where the PrairieThunder was out shot by its opponent. The PrairieThunder limited Flint to one shot on goal in the third period in Friday's 3-1 loss. The 6-0 loss to Flint on Saturday was the second worse in franchise history. Last season, the Rockford Icehogs beat the PrairieThunder 7-0.

Flint Generals - (2-0-0-0) – The Flint Generals begin week six in the IHL in first place. It’s the third week in a row that the Generals are in first. Flint’s specialty teams continue to move along well, leading the IHL on the power play with 15 goals. The Generals have scored 12 power play goals which lead the IHL. The Generals have outscored their opponents 30-14 through 40 minutes of hockey. The Generals are first in goals for averaging 3.64 and second in goals against allowing 2.55 per game. All of the Generals seven wins have occurred when they have led after 40 minutes. Chad Alban leads the IHL in wins with five and save percentage at .935.

Fort Wayne Komets - (3-0-0-0) – Komet goaltender Kevin Reiter earned his 3rd straight win on 38 saves Sunday against Port Huron. Matt Reynolds (LW) has a four-game point streak (2g, 3a, 5pts.). Luciano Aquino (RW) has a three-game point streak (3g, 4a, 7pts.) after getting points in each game played during the week. Fort Wayne native Brandon Warner (D) scored his first pro goal Sunday vs. Port Huron, 7-3 win. Konstantin Shafranov (LW) registered his 100th Komet assist Sunday vs. Port Huron on the Komet’s second goal of the game. Komets win Friday at Kalamazoo was the franchise's 2100th regular season win since 1952-53 season. The Komets have out-scored the opposition at home 22-7, greatest margin in the IHL.

Kalamazoo Wings - (0-2-0-0) – Kalamazoo is a on a two-game winless streak. Nick Bootland is on a seven-game point streak. Bootland is one point shy of 400 in his career. Florian Iberer is tied for the league lead among defensemen for goals scored with four. This week will be the first time this season the K-Wings will play four-games in five nights. Kalamazoo commenced a four-game road swing last Saturday in Fort Wayne. Kalamazoo shares the league lead with Port Huron for shorthanded goals scored with two. The K-Wings are 5-1-0-0 when scoring the game's first goal. Kalamazoo is the best scoring team first period team in the IHL with 15 goals. Kalamazoo is 5-0-0-0 when leading after two periods.

Muskegon Fury - (1-1-0-0) – The Fury’s six-goals scored Saturday night in their 6-4 triumph at Port Huron represented their best scoring output in a single game thus far this season. With two more power play goals Saturday night in Port Huron, Muskegon has now produced power play goals in eight of its first nine games of the season. On his first shift in his Fury debut Friday night on home ice, left wing Daniel Reidel scored his first-ever Fury goal at 1:52 of the first period. The very next night, Riedel connected again unassisted at 2:45 of the third period to lift the Fury into their first lead of that game. Rookie left wing Shea Hamilton scored his first-ever pro goal Saturday night at Port Huron when he delivered the game-tying goal in the first period. The Fury penalty killing unit is still rated number one in the IHL at 88% (44 of 50).

Port Huron Icehawks - (1-2-0-0) – The Icehawks went 1-2-0-0 last week, splitting the home and home series with Muskegon and losing to Fort Wayne Sunday. Rookie Jamie Carroll is tied for second in scoring in the IHL with 14 points (8g, 6a). Carroll also leads the league in shots on goal with 58. Icehawks center Brian Felsner leads the league in assists with 11. Mark Desantis leads all defenseman in assists with 7. The Icehawks are 4-2-0-0 on home ice so far this season. They are 1-1-0-0 against Bloomington, who they face for two of their three games this upcoming week. Port Huron has scored 18 goals in the second period, making that stanza their most prolific scoring period in which they have taken 168 shots on goal.
