Panthers Claim Garth Murray Off Re-Entry Waivers

SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers General Manager and Head Coach Jacques Martin announced today that the club has claimed C Garth Murray off re-entry waivers from the Montreal Canadiens.
Murray, 25, has played in 100 career NHL games with the New York Rangers (2003-04) and the Montreal Canadiens (2005-07) registering 10 points (2-8-10), while recording 100 penalty minutes. The Regina, Saskatchewan native was a member of Team Canada that won the Silver Medal at the 2002 World Junior Championships.
"Garth is a quality, character guy who competes hard every shift," Martin said. "He is the type of player that will bring a competitive attitude and grit to our lineup every night."
Last season, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound center played in 43 games for the Canadiens with two goals, one assist and 32 penalty minutes. He played in one game this season for Montreal against the Panthers on Oct. 16. Murray was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the third round (79th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
