Meyer Claimed Off Re-Entry Waivers by New York Islanders

Saturday, Nov. 10th, 2007

Freddy Meyer is an Islander again.

General manager Garth Snow reacquired the 26-year old defenseman this afternoon, picking Meyer up on re-entry waivers from the Phoenix Coyotes.

"The injuries we've recently had on our blue line prove you can never have enough depth," said Snow. "We've always liked Freddy. He's an intense competitor and he's a very solid defenseman in all areas who is still just 26 years old. We only lost him earlier in the season because of a numbers game. We are very happy to have Freddy back as an Islander."

Phoenix acquired Meyer on waivers earlier in the season when the Islanders tried to send the defenseman down to Bridgeport. Islanders defensemen Bryan Berard and Aaron Johnson are currently sidelined with injuries. Berard (groin) could return this week, but Johnson is expected to miss up to months with a knee injury.

In his time away from Long Island, Meyer played five games with the Coyotes and eight with their AHL affiliate in San Antonio.
