Monday, Oct. 1st, 2007

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators rounded out their roster to open their 15th NHL season by assigning five players to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. The Senators travel to Toronto on Wednesday, Oct. 3, to open the season against the Maple Leafs.

New players to the Senators’ 22-man lineup to begin the 2007-08 season include 12-year NHL veteran winger Shean Donovan, acquired in a trade from Boston in July; rookie left-winger Nick Foligno, Ottawa’s first round draft pick in 2006; Ottawa native Luke Richardson, who is entering his 20th pro season and goaltender Brian Elliott, called up from Binghamton for injured Ray Emery. Dean McAmmond, suffering from concussion symptoms, brings Ottawa’s roster to 22 players.

Heading to Binghamton, N.Y., to open the Senators’ sixth AHL season are defencemen Brian Lee and Lawrence Nycholat, and forwards Denis Hamel, Alexander Nikulin and Ilja Zubov. Nycholat will need to clear waivers at noon on Tuesday before joining Binghamton. The Senators open their season when they host the Albany River Rats on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Several players remain with the Senators, nursing injuries suffered during training camp. They include defenceman Matt Carkner (hand) and forwards Niko Dimitrakos (hip) and Josh Hennessy (shoulder).
