Coyotes Sign Matt Murley

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced that the Coyotes have signed left wing Matt Murley to a one-year contract.

Murley, 27, registered 23-32-55 and 18 penalty minutes (PIM) in 61 games with Albany of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season. The Troy, New York native ranked 2nd on the team in points (55) and assists (32). He also played five playoff games, collecting 1-5-6 and 8 PIM.

The 6-foot-1, 206-pound Murley has recorded 2-6-8 and 38 PIM in 59 NHL games over parts of two seasons (2003-04 and 2005-06) with Pittsburgh. In four AHL seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Albany, Murley registered 71-119-190 in 298 games. In 2004, Murley was named to the AHL All-Star Game and reached the Calder Cup Finals with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Prior to his professional career, Murley spent four seasons with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (R.P.I.) of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), finishing as the 11th leading scorer in school history. Murley also holds the honor of being the highest drafted hockey player in school history.

Murley was selected by Pittsburgh in the 2nd round (51st overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
