Thrashers Re-Sign Forward Chris Thorburn

The Atlanta Thrashers have re-signed restricted free agent forward Chris Thorburn to a multi-year contract, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell.

Thorburn, 24, was acquired by the Thrashers on June 22, 2007 in exchange for a third-round selection, 78th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 39 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, recording five points (three goals, two assists) and 69 penalty minutes. The Sault St. Marie, Ont. native has tallied six points (three goals, three assists) in 41 career games with Pittsburgh and Buffalo.

The 6-3, 210-pound forward registered 102 points (41 goals, 61 assists), along with 398 penalty minutes, in 211 American Hockey League games with the Rochester Americans and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He has also appeared in 20 AHL post-season games, recording six points (three goals, three assists) and 20 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Thorburn played four seasons of junior hockey, recording 203 points (79 goals, 124 assists) in 253 games with North Bay, Plymouth and Saginaw of the Ontario Hockey League. He was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round, 50th overall, of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
