Wild Re-Sign Boogaard to Multi-Year Deal

Wednesday, Jul. 18th, 2007

Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has re-signed left wing Derek Boogaard to a multi-year contract.

“Derek’s development is a testament to his dedication, discipline and the emphasis he places on team above individual,” said Risebrough. “Through his style of play and his personality he has made himself a valued player and person in the organization.”

Boogaard, 25 (6/23/82), skated in 48 games with Minnesota in 2006-07, and collected one assist and led the team with 120 penalty minutes (PIM) for the second consecutive season. He logged a season-high 9:35 of ice time vs. Anaheim on Oct. 27, 2006 and registered an assist in his 100th career NHL game vs. Florida on Feb. 8, 2007. The 6-foot-7, 254-pound forward added one assist and led the Wild with 20 PIM in four playoff matches. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan-native has appeared in 113 career NHL games with Minnesota and recorded seven points (2-5=7) and 278 PIM.

Boogaard was originally selected by Minnesota in the seventh round (202nd overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
