Capitals Sign Jame Pollock, Kyle Wilson

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have signed free agent defenseman Jame Pollock and free agent center Kyle Wilson to contracts, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Pollock (first name pronounced JAY-mee), 28, has spent the past three seasons in Europe after playing in the St. Louis Blues system for five years. The 6’3”, 208-pound native of Quebec City led the Sunipret Ice Tigers of the German Elite League in goals (22), assists (32) and points (54) in 46 games in 2006-07. He tied the league record for goals by a defenseman and finished fifth in the league in scoring. A defenseman who has played some right wing in the past, Pollock played nine games for the Blues in 2003-04 and totaled 167 points (63 goals, 104 assists) in 270 games in five seasons with the Worcester IceCats of the American Hockey League.

A four-year member of the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League, Pollock was a fourth-round choice of the Blues, 107th overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He posted 124 points (36 goals, 88 assists) in 223 career games with Seattle.

Wilson, 22, recently finished his rookie campaign with the Caps’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears, where he was named the team’s rookie of the year. A 6’0”, 200-pound native of Oakville, Ont., Wilson potted 24 goals and tallied 54 points in only 54 games with the Bears. He recorded seven goals and 16 points in 19 Calder Cup playoff games, as Hershey advanced to the Calder Cup finals for the second straight year.

Wilson played four seasons of collegiate hockey at Colgate University, where he finished his career with 46 goals and 55 assists (101 points) in 139 games. A ninth-round selection of the Minnesota Wild, 272nd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, he scored 23 goals and dished out 18 assists as a senior in 2005-06, earning second-team All-ECAC Hockey League honors.
