Monday, Jul. 2nd, 2007

NASHVILLE - In their first move of the free agency signing period that began at 11:00 a.m. CT on Sunday, the Nashville Predators signed free agent forward Jed Ortmeyer to a two-year contract. Ortmeyer's contract will pay him $750,000 in each year of the two-year deal.

The 28-year-old forward has played 177 career NHL games--all with the New York Rangers--collecting nine goals, 15 assists and 76 penalty minutes over three NHL seasons. Standing 6-0 and weighing 197 pounds, Ortmeyer is a defensive-minded right wing who ranked seventh among all NHL forwards in blocked shots (75) in 2005-06 and ranked sixth on the Rangers in hits (88) in 2006-07 despite being limited to just 41 games because of injury. Last season he registered career highs in assists (9), points (11) and plus/minus (7) in those 41 games.
