Vincent Damphousse Resigns From NHLPA

Tuesday, Jun. 26th, 2007

MONTREAL/TORONTO – Vincent Damphousse announced today that he will be resigning as the National Hockey League Players’ Association’s (NHLPA) Director of Business Relations, effective June 29, 2007, to devote his time to Le Scandinave Spa, the unique health-and-wellness spa concept of which he is a co-founder and co-owner.

“It’s a decision I have been carefully considering for the last few months,” said Damphousse, who ranks 42nd on the all-time NHL scoring list after amassing 1205 points in a glittering 18-year career. “Le Scandinave Spa is already well established at Mont-Tremblant (Quebec) and Blue Mountain (Collingwood, Ontario), and we are planning to expand across North America. I am going to be more involved with our corporate group on the overall project.”

During his playing career, Damphousse learned the business side of the sport when he served as Player Representative and NHLPA Vice-President. As an NHLPA Vice-President, he was on the negotiating committee that reached a collective bargaining agreement with the NHL owners, ending the year-long lockout.

“I am especially proud to have been a member of the collective bargaining team that worked hard to come up with solutions to reach a labour agreement that ended the past lockout,” remarked Damphousse. “After some key recommendations by the Competition Committee, the game and the fans have come back strong and that is great for everyone associated with the sport.”

Damphousse was hired by the NHLPA as Director of Business Relations in February, 2006. While serving in that position, he helped orchestrate the distribution of surplus and dues to more than 2,000 current and former NHL players.

“My goal was always to look after the welfare of my fellow players, and working alongside my NHLPA colleagues, I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish for the benefit of current, as well as former players,” added Damphousse. “I’ve been involved in the game of hockey, in one capacity or another, for most of my life. Hockey will always be in my blood, but a new chapter in my life is about to begin and I am looking forward to the challenge.”

Le Scandinave Spa, which was created in 1999, is a fine-tuned concept by a team with extensive experience in the recreation-tourism sector. The Spa is currently well underway on a corporate and franchising project destined to dramatically reinvent the spa marketplace by offering a one-of-a-kind experience in relaxation in a serene and natural setting.
