Flames Sign Lombardi and Nilson to Contract Extensions

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter announced today the signings of Matthew Lombardi to a three year contract extension, and Marcus Nilson to a two year extension.

Lombardi, playing in his 3rd NHL season, registered a career high in goals (20), assists (26), points (46) and penalty minutes (48) while playing in 81 games during the 2006-07 season. Lombardi also appeared in all six playoff games vs. Detroit registering a goal and an assist.

In 215 career NHL regular season games, the Montreal, Quebec native has posted 101 points (42 goals, 59 assists) and 128 penalty minutes.

The Flames drafted Lombardi in the 3rd round (90th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Nilson, a veteran of eight NHL seasons, registered five goals, 10 assists, for 15 points, and 27 penalty minutes while playing in 63 games during the 2006-07 season. Nilson also appeared in all six playoff games vs. Detroit.

In 474 career NHL regular season games, the Balsta, Sweden native has posted 163 points (64 goals, 99 assists) and 266 penalty minutes.

The Flames acquired Marcus Nilson from the Florida Panthers on March 8, 2004 in exchange for a 2nd round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
