The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have signed 6’0”, 197-pound forward Scottie Upshall to a new two-year contract, according to General Manager Paul Holmgren.
“We were very pleased with Scottie’s performance after we acquired him midway through last season and we’re glad to have him locked up in our organization for the next couple of seasons,” said Holmgren in making the announcement. “It was a priority for us to get this deal done as soon as possible so we can continue to move forward with our offseason plans.”
Upshall, 23, recorded eight goals and eight assists for 16 points and 26 penalty minutes in 32 regular season games for the Flyers and Nashville Predators this past season. He posted 13 points (6G,7A) and eight penalty minutes in 18 games for the Flyers. Upshall was acquired by the Flyers, along with defenseman Ryan Parent and a first round pick and third round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft from Nashville in exchange for Peter Forsberg on February 15, 2007. He registered three points (2G,1A) and 18 penalty minutes in 14 games for the Predators.
In 95 career regular season games over parts of four NHL seasons (2002-03 through 2006-07), Upshall has recorded 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 points and 60 penalty minutes. He was drafted by the Predators in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
