Rangers Sign Colton Orr to a Contract Extension

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has signed forward Colton Orr to a contract extension.

Orr, 25, skated in 53 games with the Rangers this season, registering two goals and one assist, along with 126 penalty minutes. His 126 penalty minutes ranked third on the team and tied for 18th in the NHL. On February 9 vs. Tampa Bay, he notched his first career NHL goal, recorded a career-high 15 penalty minutes and earned Second Star honors. In four postseason games, Orr currently ranks second on the Rangers with 12 penalty minutes.

The 6-3, 222-pound winger has skated in 89 career NHL games with the Rangers and Boston Bruins, registering two goals and two assists for four points, along with 197 penalty minutes. Last season, Orr appeared in 35 games with the Rangers and Bruins, registering one assist along with 71 penalty minutes.

In 15 games with the Blueshirts, he collected one assist and 44 penalty minutes. On March 29, 2006, he notched his first career NHL point with an assist in the Rangers 5-1 win at the Islanders. In 2004, he made his NHL debut with Boston on January 8 vs. Pittsburgh.

In 126 career American Hockey League (AHL) contests with the Providence Bruins, Orr registered two goals and 10 assists, along with 543 penalty minutes. During the 2004-05 season, he tallied one goal and six assists in 61 games with Providence (AHL), and led the team with 279 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning professional, Orr spent over four seasons (1999-2003) in the Western Hockey League (WHL), skating with Swift Current, Kamloops and Regina.

The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba was originally signed by the Boston Bruins as a free agent on September 19, 2001. He was claimed off waivers by the Rangers on November 29, 2005.
