Dayton's Berkhoel Is ECHL Goaltender of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. – The ECHL on Wednesday announced that Adam Berkhoel of the Dayton Bombers is the recipient of the Rbk Hockey Goaltender of the Year award for 2006-07.

The Rbk Hockey Goaltender of the Year award is presented annually to the goaltender adjudged to be the best at his position as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches.

Berkhoel was 23-17-3 with five shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .910 while helping the Bombers finish first in the North Division and return to the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2001. He tied for second in the league with five shutouts and was third in goals-against average. Berkhoel was the starting goaltender for the American Conference in the ECHL All-Star Game and was named Most Valuable Player after stopping 10 of 11 shots in the first period of a 6-3 win.

Under contract to Buffalo of the National Hockey League, Berkhoel has also played six games in the AHL with Rochester where he is 2-3-0 with a goals-against average of 3.22 and a save percentage of .899. In his third professional season, Berkhoel is 42-31-9 with eight shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.49 and a save percentage of .910 in 82 regular season games in the ECHL with Gwinnett and Dayton.

Mike McKenna of Las Vegas (38 gp, 27-4-7, 5 shutouts, 2.21 GAA, .927 save pct.) finished second in the voting followed by Cincinnati rookie Cedrick Desjardins (44 gp, 24-19-1, 4 shutouts, 2.54, .917 save pct.) and Jamie Hodson of Bakersfield (48 gp, 29-10-8, 3 shutouts, 2.66 GAA, .917 save pct.).
