Stars Activate Steve Ott From IR; Assign Chris Conner to Iowa

Monday, Mar. 26th, 2007

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has activated center Steve Ott from the injured reserve list, and assigned right wing Chris Conner to the Iowa Stars, Dallas’ primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Ott, 24, was placed on the injured reserve on Feb. 1 with an ankle injury, and in 13 games with Dallas this season, has recorded four assists and 26 penalty minutes. Ott also skated in three games for the Iowa Stars on a conditioning assignment in January. During the 2005-06 season, Ott set new career highs in goals (5), assists (17) and points (22) and ranked second on the Stars in penalty minutes (178). The 6-0, 193-pound center was the only Stars player to appear in all 82 regular season games in 2005-06.

Dallas’ first round pick (No. 25 overall) in the 2000 Entry Draft, Ott has appeared in 194 career NHL games and has recorded 45 points (10 goals and 35 assists) with 387 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 10 Stanley Cup Playoff games for the club, notching a goal and an assist with two penalty minutes.

The native of Summerside, P.E.I., became the first player in franchise history (and just the 24th in NHL history) to have his first playoff point come as an overtime game-winning goal when he lit the lamp in extra time of Game Three of the 2004 Western Conference Quarterfinals vs. Colorado.

Conner, 23, has appeared in 11 games with the Stars this season, posting three points (1-2-3) with four penalty minutes. He scored his first NHL goal on Dec. 27 at Colorado after making his NHL debut on Dec. 8 vs. Edmonton. The 5-8, 175-pound right wing has played in 39 games with Iowa this season, collecting 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points.

Signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 13, 2006, Conner appeared in 15 games with Iowa last season following his collegiate career at Michigan Tech (2002-2006). During his senior year at Michigan Tech, he tallied 29 points (17-12-29), good for the team-lead in goals and points. The Westland, Michigan, native ended his career with Michigan Tech as the school’s all-time leader in shorthanded goals (15) and ranks 19th among goal-scorers (69).
