Oilers Recall Robert Nilsson

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled right wing Robert Nilsson from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League on emergency conditions.

Nilsson, currently in his second pro season, was obtained from the New York Islanders, along with Ryan O’Marra and a first round draft choice in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, for Ryan Smyth on February 27, 2007. Following the trade, the 5’11”, 185-pound forward was transferred to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.

Nilsson has scored 1-9-10 with eight penalty minutes in seven games for the Penguins and has 13-42-55 with 42 penalty minutes in 57 games on the season. At the time of the trade, Nilsson led Bridgeport in scoring with 12-33-45 in 50 games.

This will be Nilsson’s second stint in the NHL, as he made his professional debut with the Islanders in 2005-06. He scored 6-14-20 with 26 PIM in 53 games with New York in his NHL rookie season.

The 22-year-old played three seasons in Europe with Leksands, Hammarby and and Djurgardens IF in Sweden and Fribourg-Gotteronn of Switzerland.
