Penguins Acquire Kwiatkowski From Florida

Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenseman Joel Kwiatkowski from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a fourth round selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Kwiatkowski (KWEE-at-KOW-skee) is currently in his sixth NHL season and has recorded 10 points (five goals, five assists), while posting 20 penalty minutes, in 41 games with the Panthers. He has scored a career-high two game-winning goals this season and is on pace to break his season high in scoring (12 points).

The 6-0, 202-pound native of Kindersley, Saskatchewan has collected 40 points (16 goals, 24 assists) in 263 NHL career games. Kwiatkowski, 29, has also competed in six Stanley Cup Playoff games registering a plus-one. He was originally selected in the eighth round (194th overall) by the Dallas Stars in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
