Capitals Trade Richard Zednik to the Islanders

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have acquired a second-round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft from the New York Islanders in exchange for right wing Richard Zednik, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced.

Zednik, 31, was acquired from Montreal on July 12, 2006, for a third-round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 32 games for Washington this season, registering 18 points (six goals and 12 assists). The 6’0”, 201-pound native of Banks Bystrica, Slovakia, missed a total of 31 games this year due to injury, including 26 straight (Dec. 6- Jan. 30).

With the New York Islanders’ second-round selection, the Capitals now have three selections in the first two rounds of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
