Saturday, Feb. 24th, 2007

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired goaltender Gerald Coleman and a 2007 first-round draft pick from Tampa Bay in exchange for Shane O'Brien and a 2007 third-round draft pick*. Coleman will report directly to the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Coleman, 21 (4/3/85), has played in three games with Springfield (AHL) this season, posting a 2-1-0 record, 2.01 goals-against average (GAA) and .940 save percentage (SV%). He has also played in 17 games with the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL, going 7-9-0 with a 3.41 GAA and .902 SV%.

A native of Romeoville, Illinois, Coleman won the 2005 Memorial Cup and Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Championship with London in 2005, going 32-2-2 with a 1.70 GAA and .941 SV%. He led the OHL in shutouts (8) during the regular season and went 7-1 with a 1.71 GAA in the playoffs, leading London to the title. In 2005-2006, Coleman played in 43 AHL games with Springfield and appeared in his first two NHL games with Tampa Bay, allowing two goals in 43 total minutes (2.79 GAA, 0-0-1 record).

Coleman was drafted by Tampa Bay in the seventh round (224th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Before joining London, he played in the USA Development Program. Coleman was also the first player from the NHL Diversity Program to be drafted by an NHL team.

O’Brien, 23, (8/9/83), has appeared in 62 career NHL games (all this season), scoring 2-12=14 points with 140 penalty minutes. He was drafted by Anaheim in the eighth round (250th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He played for Cincinnati (AHL) from 2003-2005 and Portland in 2005-2006.

* Anaheim had the option of flipping this pick with Colorado’s third round selection in the 2007 Entry Draft. The option travels with the pick to Tampa Bay (part of the trade).
