Capitals Re-Sign Donald Brashear

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have re-signed left wing Donald Brashear to a one-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.

Brashear, 35, was signed by Montreal as a free agent on July 28, 1992. In 13 NHL seasons, he has played with four teams: Montreal, Vancouver, Philadelphia and Washington. Brashear has skated in 821 career games, recording 77 goals and 109 assists for 186 points with 2,290 penalty minutes.

A 6’2”, 235-pound native of Bedford, Ind., Brashear was signed by Washington as a free agent on July 14, 2006. He has appeared in 52 games for the Capitals so far this season, recording seven points (two goals, five assists) in his first year with the team. He leads Caps and ranks fourth overall in the NHL in penalty minutes this year (125).
