Robertson, DeCaro CHL Player and Goaltender of the Month

Friday, Feb. 9th, 2007

The Sher-Wood Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Month for January/2007 have been determined. New Mexico center Chris Robertson has been selected as the Sher-Wood CHL Player of the Month, leading the Scorpions with 18 points in 12 games in which the club recorded an impressive 8-3-1 mark in January. Bossier-Shreveport goaltender John DeCaro claims Sher-Wood Goaltender of the Month honors after posting an 8-1-0 mark for the surging Mudbugs. Both Roberson and DeCaro will receive custom leather jackets from Sher-Wood, the official stick, glove, pant and protective equipment supplier to the CHL.

Robertson recorded five goals and 13 assists in January, along with seven multiple point contests, and finished the month with a +13 plus/minus ranking. He has already established a career high with his team leading 49 points and has already tied his career high with 17 goals. The third year pro has been a consistent performer in New Mexico’s resurgence after a poor start, with the club now occupying top position in the Southwest Division standings.

DeCaro performed admirably for the Mudbugs in January, winning all but one of his nine starts in the month. He allowed more than three goals against in just one contest, and allowed single goals against in four consecutive victories. Overall he has won 13 of his last 14 starts, and leads the CHL with both a 2.24 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. DeCaro’s fine play has earned him a promotion to the American Hockey League, called up by the Philadelphia Phantoms on February 4th.
