Stars Place Ott on IR; Recall Lundqvist

Thursday, Feb. 1st, 2007

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has placed center Steve Ott on the injured reserve list and recalled center Joel Lundqvist from the Iowa Stars, Dallas’ development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Ott, 24, was originally placed on injured reserve on Nov. 16 after fracturing his ankle on Oct. 28 and was activated from injured reserve on Jan. 18. He played in two games following the All-Star break with the Stars, going scoreless. In 13 games this season with Dallas, he has recorded four assists and 26 penalty minutes.

During the 2005-06 season, Ott set new career highs in goals (5), assists (17) and points (22) with Dallas, and ranked second on the club in penalty minutes (178). The 6-0, 193-pound center was the only Stars player to appear in all 82 regular season games.

Dallas’ first round pick (No. 25 overall) in the 2000 Entry Draft, Ott has appeared in 194 career NHL games and has recorded 45 points (10 goals and 35 assists) with 387 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 10 Stanley Cup Playoff games for the club, notching a goal and an assist with two penalty minutes.

The native of Summerside, P.E.I., became the first player in franchise history (and just the 24th in NHL history) to have his first playoff point come as an overtime game-winning goal when he lit the lamp in extra time of Game Three of the 2004 Western Conference Quarterfinals vs. Colorado.

Lundqvist, 24, has appeared in nine games with Dallas this season, collecting one goal, his first NHL goal and point on Jan. 17 vs. Calgary. He is the identical twin brother of Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, and Dec. 14 when the Stars and Rangers met, marked just the third set of twins in NHL history to play against one another and the first since Rich and Ron Sutter (March 14, 1994).

The native of Are, Sweden, has also appeared in 40 games with Iowa this season, posting 16 goals and 22 assists for 38 points with five power play goals and 30 penalty minutes. Among Iowa team leaders, he ranks first in assists and points, second in goals and tied for second in power play goals. Lundqvist was the only Iowa representative at the 2007 AHL All-Star Game, going scoreless for Planet USA against the Canadian AHL All-Stars.
