Oilers Recall Stortini; Place Staios on IR
Friday, Jan. 19th, 2007
The Edmonton Oilers have placed defenceman Steve Staios on the NHL Injured Reserve List and have recalled forward Zack Stortini from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.
Staios has been sidelined for the Oilers’ last four games (January 10th to 18th) with the flu and a knee strain.
This will be Stortini’s second recall to the Oilers this season, having previously been recalled on November 20th. The 6’3”, 215-pound native of Elliot Lake, Ontario did not play in the Oilers’ 2-1 win versus the Calgary Flames at Rexall Place on November 21st and was reassigned to Hamilton on November 22nd.
The 21-year-old winger has scored 9-6-15 with 172 PIM and is +1 in 42 games with Hamilton this season. He was 12th on the Bulldogs scoring list and led the AHL in penalty minutes at the time of his recall. Three of his nine goals have been scored on the powerplay.
