Christian and Perras Named CHL Player and Goaltender of the Month

The Sher-Wood Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Month for December/2006 have been determined. Northern Conference All-Star starter and CHL point leader Jeff Christian of the Youngstown SteelHounds enjoyed a 29 point December to claim Sher-Wood CHL Player of the Month accolades, while JF Perras of the Lubbock Cotton Kings posted exceptional goals against average and save percentage numbers along with two shutouts to earn selection as the Sher-Wood CHL Goaltender of the Month. Both Christian and Perras will receive custom leather jackets from Sher-Wood, the official stick, glove, pant and protective equipment supplier to the CHL.
Christian recorded points in all 12 games played in December, registering 11 multiple point outings including nine of his 18 total goals this season. He added 20 of his CHL leading 37 assists in December, and set up all four Youngstown goals in a 4-2 home win over Austin on December 23rd. Christian’s 55 points and +22 plus/minus rating also lead the CHL, and he was also name a starter at the 2006 CHL All-Star Game for the Northern Conference, ending the season with a League high 55 goals.
Despite a record of just 4-4-1 in December, netminder JF Perras was exceptional with a 1.71 goals against average and a .952 save percentage for the Cotton Kings. The rookie goaltender was perfect in recording two shutouts in the month, stopping 33 Laredo shots in a 3-0 home win won over Laredo on December 16th, and making 37 saves against Odessa in a 3-0 home victory on December 26th. Named to the Southern Conference All-Star roster in late December, Perras ranks third among all CHL goaltenders in both goals against average (2.36) and save percentage (.932).
