Wednesday, Dec. 27th, 2006
FRISCO, Tex. - Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that left wing Brenden Morrow is out indefinitely after successful surgery late Tuesday night to repair tendons in his right wrist. Morrow sustained the severed tendons when he was stepped on with a skate in Dallas' game at Chicago on Tuesday. He was discharged from a Chicago hospital on Wednesday morning and will return to Dallas this afternoon, where he will be monitored and re-evaluated by the Stars' medical staff.
Armstrong also announced that the hockey club has recalled right wing Chris Conner from the Iowa Stars, Dallas' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). Conner will join the club in Denver when it takes on the Colorado Avalanche tonight.
In 27 games for Dallas this season, Morrow has recorded 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points with 27 penalty minutes. He currently ranks tied for second on the club in goals and game-winning goals (3), and is tied for third in power play goals (5). During the 2005-06 season, Morrow set new career highs in assists (42) and points (65) and led the club in plus/minus (+30). He was the only player in the NHL last season to register more than 20 goals and 125 penalty minutes.
Dallas' first round pick (No. 25 overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Morrow has skated in 479 career NHL games and has posted 130 goals and 159 assists for 289 points with 783 penalty minutes. The native of Carlyle, Sask., has also skated in 53 career Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Stars, notching 24 points (six goals and 18 assists) and 60 penalty minutes.
Conner, 22, played in his first two career NHL games with Dallas on Dec. 8 vs. Edmonton and Dec. 9 at Phoenix. He has appeared in 30 games with Iowa this season, collecting nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points with 20 penalty minutes. He ranks tied for first on the Iowa Stars in shorthanded goals (2), third in goals and tied for fourth in points. The 5-8, 175-pound right wing appeared in one preseason game with Dallas this year, going scoreless on Sept. 19 at Colorado.
Signed by Dallas as a free agent on July 13, 2006, Conner appeared in 15 games with Iowa last season following a four-year collegiate career at Michigan Tech from 2002-2006. During his senior year at MTU, he tallied 29 points (17-12-29), good for the team-lead in goals and points. The Westland, Mich., native ended his career with Michigan Tech as the school's all-time leader in shorthanded goals (15) and ranks 19th among goal-scorers (69).
