Jones Recalled by Coyotes Under Emergency Conditions
Wednesday, Dec. 20th, 2006
GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Michael Barnett announced today that the Coyotes have recalled defenseman Matt Jones on emergency conditions from the San Antonio Rampage, the Coyotes’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.
The Coyotes were forced to recall Jones after defenseman Ed Jovanovski suffered a groin injury. Jovanovski’s injury left the Coyotes with only five healthy defensemen on their roster. Jovanovski will be out of the lineup tomorrow night when the Coyotes take on the Edmonton Oilers at Jobing.com Arena.
Jones, 23, has registered 1-2-3 and 8 penalty minutes (PIM) in 12 games with the Coyotes this season. The 6-foot, 215-pound defenseman scored his first career NHL goal versus the New York Rangers on Oct. 28. Jones has also collected 1 assist and 21 PIM in 16 games with San Antonio.
As a first-year professional last season, the native of Downers Grove, Illinois recorded 2 assists and 14 PIM in 16 games with the Coyotes.
The Coyotes selected Jones in the 3rd round (80th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
