Stars Sign Stephane Robidas to Three-Year Extension

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has signed defenseman Stephane Robidas to a three-year contract extension worth $4.5 million ($1.5 million per year) through the 2009-2010 season. Robidas’ current contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2006-07 season.
“Stephane brings a relentless work ethic to the rink each day and has earned this three-year extension,” said Armstrong. “He is a passionate player who is built for the new NHL and we are happy to have him over the next three-plus seasons.”
Robidas, 29, has appeared in 27 games with the Stars this season, registering eight assists, a +6 rating and 45 penalty minutes. Among team leaders, he ranks tied for fourth in plus/minus and tied for sixth in assists.
The 5-11, 190-pound defenseman set career-highs in assists (15) and points (20) during the 2005-06 season with the Stars. Over parts of four seasons with Dallas, Robidas has appeared in 192 games, posting nine goals and 30 assists for 39 points with 155 penalty minutes. In 17 playoff games with the Stars, he has tallied three assists with 24 penalty minutes. He was originally acquired by Dallas from Atlanta in exchange for future considerations on Oct. 4, 2002.
The Sherbrooke, Quebec, native has played in 359 career NHL games with Montreal (1999-2002), Dallas (2002-2004, 2005-Present) and Chicago (2004), notching 18 goals and 56 assists for 74 points with 216 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by Montreal in the seventh round (164th overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
