Stars Recall Joel Lundqvist From Iowa

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has recalled center Joel Lundqvist (pronounced LUHND-kvihst, JOE-ehl) from the Iowa Stars, Dallas’ primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Lundqvist, 24, has appeared in 24 games with Iowa this season, posting seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points with three power play goals and 22 penalty minutes. Among team leaders, he ranks first in assists, tied for first in points, tied for third in power play goals and fourth in goals.

Dallas’ third round selection (68th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Lundqvist has played in 253 career games for Vastra Frolunda in the Swedish Elite League, posting 55 goals and 82 assists for 137 points with 541 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 49 playoff games for the Goteborg club, notching 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points with 85 PIM.

During the 2005-06 season, the 6-foot-1, 194-pound center ranked second on his club in penalty minutes (87), third in assists (22; a career-high) and fifth in points (32). He was second in scoring among Swedish Elite League rookies in 2001-02 (12-14-26) behind Nils Ekman, now of the San Jose Sharks.

A native of Are, Sweden, Lundqvist represented his country at the 2002 World Junior Championships, recording one goal and one assist for two points in seven appearances. He is the identical twin brother of goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who went 30-12-9 as a rookie for the New York Rangers in 2005-06.
