Tuesday, Jul. 25th, 2006
The New York Islanders have accepted an arbitration award and have signed center Mike York to a one-year contract.
"Letting Mike York go was never a consideration," said Islanders general manager Garth Snow. "He is a very important player for us, a proud Islander. Mike wanted to stay on Long Island and the feeling was mutual. We're looking forward to an excellent season from Mike."
Last season, his first with the Islanders after arriving in a trade with Edmonton for Michael Peca, the 28-year old York was 13-39-52 in 75 games. In 449 career NHL games with the Rangers, Edmonton and Islanders, York has 111 goals and 176 assists for 287 points.
