Tampa Bay Lightning Trade Sydor to Dallas Stars

FRISCO, Tex. - Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Darryl Sydor from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft.
“We are very familiar with the type of player and person that Darryl Sydor is and he immediately solidifies our defensive corps,” said Armstrong. “Darryl is a proven winner in the National Hockey League and he brings a level of veteran leadership, toughness and experience that very few active players can match. We are extremely happy to have him back in Dallas.”
Sydor, 34, returns to Dallas after skating in 575 games over eight seasons with the Stars from 1995-2003. The 6-foot-1, 211-pound defenseman registered 62 goals and 238 assists for 300 points with 349 penalty minutes in his first stint in Dallas, and was a member of the club’s 1999 Stanley Cup championship team. Among all defenseman in Stars franchise history, Sydor currently ranks third in both assists and points.
A native of Edmonton, Alta., Sydor also skated in 92 Stanley Cup Playoff games during his first run with the Stars, notching 36 points (five goals and 31 assists) and 42 penalty minutes. He currently ranks tied for sixth in franchise history in playoff appearances and eighth in playoff assists.
Sydor spent the 2005-06 season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where in 80 games, he posted four goals and 19 assists for 23 points with 30 PIM. A member of Tampa Bay’s 2004 Stanley Cup-winning squad, Sydor has appeared in 1,023 career NHL games and has amassed 450 points (89 goals and 361 assists) and 660 penalty minutes. In 149 career Stanley Cup Playoffs games, Sydor has recorded eight goals and 47 assists for 55 points with 67 PIM.
A two-time NHL All-Star (1998, 1999), Sydor was originally drafted seventh overall by Los Angeles in the 1990 Entry Draft. He was first dealt to Dallas, along with a fifth-round draft pick, on Feb. 17, 1996, in exchange for Shane Churla and Doug Zmolek.
