Detroit Acquires Cory Cross

DETROIT - General Manager Ken Holland today announced that the Detroit Red Wings have acquired defenseman Cory Cross from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Detroit's fourth-round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Cross is in his 12th NHL season with Detroit becoming his fifth NHL team, and third in the last six weeks. He was traded from Edmonton to Pittsburgh along with Jani Rita from in exchange for Dick Tarnstrom on January 26th.

For 2005-06 season, Cross has played in 40 games, scoring two goals and four assists for six points. In his 12-year career, Cross has appeared in 643 NHL games, totaling 33 goals and 96 assists for 129 points. Cross has played in 47 Stanley Cup Playoff games (2-4-6), 35 of which were during his three years with Toronto.

"We're very pleased to have Corey join the Red Wings," said Holland. "He's a veteran NHL defenseman that brings size, strength and depth to our blueline. He moves the puck well and will fit in to our style of game."
