Penguins Claim Andy Hilbert Off Waivers from Chicago

The Pittsburgh Penguins have claimed center Andy Hilbert off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks, it was announced Thursday by General Manager Craig Patrick.

Hilbert, 25, has appeared in 28 games this season with Chicago, recording nine points (5+4) and 22 penalty minutes. Hilbert also played in five games with Chicago’s AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, recording seven points (3+4) and two penalty minutes.

The 5-11 and 194-pound native of Lansing, Michigan ranked seventh in the American Hockey League in scoring during the 2004-05 season, recording 79 points (37+42) in 79 games with the Providence Bruins. Hilbert was named team MVP and led the team in playoff scoring with 21 points (7+14) in 17 games during the Calder Cup playoffs.

Hilbert has appeared in 66 NHL games with Boston and Chicago, recording 15 points (8+7) and 40 penalty minutes. He was acquired by the Blackhawks from Boston on November 6, 2005 in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Hilbert was originally drafted by Boston in the second round (37th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
