Stars Place Patrick Traverse on IR

FRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has placed defenseman Patrick Traverse on the injured reserve list with an ankle injury, retro-active to Jan. 25. Traverse was recalled from the Iowa Stars, the Stars’ primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), on Jan. 24. He played in one game for the club, on Jan. 25 vs. St. Louis, registering one shot on goal in 11:27 minutes.
Traverse, 31, has appeared in 26 games with the Iowa Stars this season, recording three goals and 16 assists for 19 points with 12 penalty minutes. Among Iowa’s team leaders, he ranks second in assists and tied for fifth in points. Two of Traverse’s three goals on the campaign have come on the power play and he notched the first four-point game in the Iowa Stars history with four assists on Oct. 16 vs. San Antonio.
The 6-4, 207-pound defenseman was signed by Dallas as a free agent on August 3, 2005 after spending the 2004-05 season with the AHL Houston Aeros. In 72 games for Houston a season ago, the Montreal native posted six goals and nine assists for 15 points with 28 penalty minutes. He also skated in five playoff games for the Aeros, recording two penalty minutes.
In 248 career NHL games with Ottawa (1995-2000), Anaheim (2000-01), Boston (2000-01) and Montreal (2000-2003), Traverse has notched 14 goals and 51 assists for 65 points with 113 PIM. Traverse appeared in six Stanley Cup Playoff games with Ottawa during the 2000 postseason, notching two PIM.
