Atlanta's Kovalchuk Suspended for One Game

TORONTO - Atlanta Thrashers' forward Ilya Kovalchuk has been suspended for one game, without pay, for an incident in which he threw his stick into the stands during NHL Game #506 against Washington Capitals on Dec. 22.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Kovalchuk will forfeit $32,653.06. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
The incident occurred at 2:02 of the third period and Kovalchuk was assessed a misconduct penalty.
Kovalchuk will miss tonight's game at New Jersey.
