Panthers Trade Huselius to Flames for Montador and Johner

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers general manager Mike Keenan announced today that the club has acquired D Steve Montador and C Dustin Johner from the Calgary Flames in exchange for LW Kristian Huselius.
“Steve is a physical, young player whose skills continue to develop,” said Keenan. “He played a significant role in Calgary’s 2004 post season run to the Stanley Cup Finals and adds further depth to our club’s defense.”
Montador, 25, has played in 94 career National Hockey League games, registering nine points (4-5-9) and 201 PIM. The Vancouver, BC native appeared in 20 of the Flames’ 26 contests during the 2004 playoffs scoring one goal with two assists, averaging more than 17 minutes of ice time with a plus-4 rating. The 6-foot 210-pound defenseman has played in seven games with Calgary this season scoring one goal with 11 PIM.
Johner, 22 has played in eight games with the East Coast Hockey League’s Las Vegas Wranglers recording four points (2-2-4) and eight PIM. He also has appeared in five games this year with the American Hockey League’s Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. The Sylvan Lake, Alberta native paced Las Vegas with 48 points (22-26-48) during the 2004-05 campaign. He was originally drafted by Florida in the sixth round (169th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Huselius has played in 24 games with the Florida Panthers this season posting eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) and four penalty minutes. The 6’1” 190 lbs. forward has posted 117 points (58 goals, 69 assists) and 62 penalty minutes in 257 NHL career games with the Panthers.
The native of Sweden was the Panthers’ second choice, 47th overall, in the 1997 Entry Draft
Huselius has represented Sweden in five International tournaments including the World Junior Championships in 1998 and 1999 as well as the World Championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
