Ken Belanger Announces Retirement

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Kings left wing Ken Belanger has informed the club of his intentions to retire from the National Hockey League, Kings President, Hockey Operations/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today.
Belanger, 31, had zero points and seven penalty minutes in five games with the Kings this season. The 6-4, 220-pound native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario signed a one-year contract with the Kings on September 30 after making the team out of training camp. He began training camp as a non-roster invitee.
Belanger, originally selected by the Hartford Whalers in the seventh-round (153rd overall) in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, also played for the Kings during the 2002-03 season when he collected 17 penalty minutes in four games before suffering a concussion that caused him to miss the remainder of the season. In addition, he appeared in 43 games with the Kings during the 2001-02 season and recorded two points (2-0=2) and 85 penalty minutes.
In 248 career NHL games with the Kings, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs, Belanger had 23 points (11-12=23) and 695 penalty minutes.
