Canucks Sign Defenceman Jason Doig

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have signed free agent defenceman, Jason Doig.

Doig, 28, will report directly to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL, Vancouver’s minor affiliate, where he has played in five games this year, notching two points (0-2-2).

The Montreal native most recently played for the Washington Capitals. In the 2003-04 season, Doig recorded 11 points (2-9-11) and 105 penalty minutes in 65 regular season games.

Prior to joining the Canucks, Doig has played in four NHL cities: Winnipeg, Phoenix (formerly in Winnipeg), New York Rangers, and Washington. In his seven-year NHL career, Doig registered six goals, 18 assists and 285 penalty minutes in 158 games played. He has seen time in six post-season games, tallying one assist and six penalty minutes.

During his junior career, the 6’3”, 230-pound defenceman was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team in 1994 and the Memorial Cup Tournament All-Star Team in 1996.
