Thrashers Recall Adam Berkhoel; Activate Shane Hnidy from IR

Thursday, Oct. 20th, 2005

The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled goaltender Adam Berkhoel from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League and activated defenseman Shane Hnidy from Injured Reserve (shoulder), according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. The team’s active roster now stands at 22, with an additional three players on Injured Reserve.

Berkhoel, who made 24 saves in his NHL debut at the New York Rangers on Saturday, is 1-1-0 with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage in two games with Chicago. Berkhoel, who was acquired from the Blackhawks in a trade on June 27, 2004, played in one game for the Wolves and 24 games for Gwinnett of the ECHL last season. He was recalled by Atlanta on Oct. 13, and reassigned on Monday.

Hnidy, 29, has missed the last six games due to a shoulder injury he suffered in the pre-season finale against Nashville on Sept. 30. The 6-2, 205-pound defenseman has 22 points (four goals, 18 assists) and 353 penalty minutes in 198 career NHL games with Ottawa and Nashville.
